Glamping Girls
I cannot say enough about a weekend of GIRLS GLAMPING. It usually starts on a Friday afternoon as the heat of the day is settling on our little ridge that they begin to arrive. First two girls arrive we’ll call them ‘Liz and Tiffany.’… ahhhhhh is the first reaction -most of our glamping girl guests are leaving behind busy lives. In our days of the ‘modern women’ our lives often revolve around children, husbands, careers, household duties, and various other chores so we have learned to be quite the multitaskers!
Next step, unload the weekend’s loot into the golf cart for master Rick to take to your home away from home. This luggage consists of many things: enough clothes for all-weather
coolers with wine , beer, chocolate, cheese, bags with crackers, cookies, favorite wine glass, favorite pillow, books, games, samore sticks (yes you do not have to trample through the woods in the dark to find the perfect stick any more because they manufacture these now! ), and we are not sure what lurks in the bottom of these bags full of goodies!
As I take them on the BIG Martyn House ‘tour’, Rick delivers their luggage to their tent. This tour explains that our galleries are always open for them to enjoy. Take a glass of wine to Ricks studio and have your own little gallery walkabout or go to mine for a unique shopping experience and an aromatherapy session as well as they take in the scents of my soaps and other yummies. We have so many little creative places to hang out, we show them a few and leave the rest for them to explore.
And when we walk together to their tent(s) its like magic every time. This consists of a walk through the woods, climb the stairs to a covered veranda beaming a colorful ceiling with golden suns or stars with mirrors or bright colors bursting, a vintage set of chairs with a table , the cooler already in place and they open the first beer! Then into their den…… filled with all the special touches, fresh flowers from the garden, homemade soaps , crisp white linens, luxurious robes and french presses. Each time a guest enters a tent I realize that the pictures on our web site do not do justice to these adorable tents that create a feeling of a far away place. The windows look out into the woods and bring a refreshing cool breeze in return. As I leave them to settle in, I hear the girls (our two dogs Maya and Grace) barking, so I know the next guests have arrived. I do this walk 4 times, once for each tent and each time is just a exciting as the first and all those that will follow this year!
The girls meander along the ridge, visiting each others tents and enjoy a peaceful and relaxing time before cocktails at 6! When they arrive for the evening gathering , cell phones gone, no computers, no children or husbands demanding their attention just the pure simple freedom of being girls on a trip. This gives them the best of nature with all the benefits of Glamour that only Glamping gives! The laughter and fun continue long into the evening and after dinner a huge bon fire awaits them. Sitting that first evening roasting marshmallows and telling stories and sharing their lives its the connection that I love . As the evening comes to a close its the walk up the ridge in the dark with flash light in hand, one too many cocktails and smiles on their faces that tells it all! Snuggling down into those comfy beds as the lights go out you hear goodnight Tiffany, goodnight Liz, goodnight Lisa’s , goodnight Suzanne, goodnight Linda, goodnight Michele, goodnight Jodi, good night John boy whereever you are!!!
Morning at TMH begins at 9:30 as a breakfast is served on the side porch, usually they last til almost noon as the conversation is just so stimulating. The rest of the day could be best described as lazy days at The Martyn House… walks to the pond with Maya and Grace, relaxing, reading, picking cherries, taking a nap, getting a massage and then we start all over again.
The weekends pass so quickly that our guests have found that 2 nights and what often is just one full day since Friday and Sunday end up being travel days is never enough time to experience TMH . Take a well deserved break from your work or your life and either come on Thursday or stay over on Sunday you will not regret it I assure you! We also recommend massages, and to make NO plans just let the days unfold.
When our guests are ready to leave it’s a bittersweet for us as they have become part of TMH family. We hug, and know we will be seeing them again for another Glamping Adventure!!!
